Being Designed Doesn’t Make It Well Designed
I’m seeing an increasing number of blogs out there that focus on “design,” when what they really mean is industrial design, or in most cases knick knack design. Just because something received consideration from a designer, or appears slightly modern/retro/shabby chic doesn’t mean it’s been done well.
Take for example the following images that appeared on a “design” blog:

That clock is just an updated 1970s era gross starburst clock reserved for basement bars and rumpus rooms with wood paneling. Not to mention, you can barely see the hands to tell time (you know, what a clock’s for?), and who’s got brass trim in their house (on purpose) anyway? I need pillows with creepy dog screen prints like I need a hole in the head. What would delude someone into thinking these are well designed? Being expensive and hawked in a store with “boutique” or “gallery” in the title doesn’t make junk good. Also, if you take your blog that seriously that people should buy this stuff because you call it well designed, maybe you ought to consider buying hosting instead of using blogger?

“Being Designed Doesn’t Make It Well Designed”
I agree with this statement. Websites must deliver a design that is suitable and is aimed at their intended audience. Just because you have contributed a vast amount of time designing and building a website, does not necessarily mean it is well designed. The main purpose of a site is to inform the user of what it is selling etc. If the design lacks the basic principles of structure, attractiveness and functionality, then there is no point of it existing.
