True Colors Tour

From the Human Rights Campaign website:

The Human Rights Campaign has joined forces with legendary performer Cyndi Lauper to launch a national tour in support of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.

What a fabulous idea. Too bad HRC apparently only wants to raise support for the GLBT communities in large cities. You know, the ones that are already pretty gay? Isn’t awareness needed more in the country’s smaller cities and rural areas where gay culture is swept under the rug? The only midwestern stop on the entire tour is Chicago. Oh wait, that’s right, only the queers in the big city can drop the bucks for HRC’s thinly veiled fundraiser. Call it what it is, “We need money, and we’ll go where we can get it, even if that’s not where we’re needed.”

Maybe that’s why the most risque performer on the tour is straight, those sequined drag queens just don’t bring in the cash. The straight donors might have an easier time parting with their money if it’s a straight person asking for it after all, right? I’d link to the actual True Colors website, but they couldn’t be bothered to complete it.

While I’m appreciative of HRC’s efforts as a whole and the performers, I hope in the future they’ll consider gracing some smaller towns that might not have the opportunity for such a gathering otherwise. If you live in one of the cities on the tour, please consider supporting the organization’s endeavors and buy a ticket.
