The nail in the coffin for live music in Akron, the Lime Spider is closing. This makes me so sad, I have a lot of fond memories of girls-n’-vinyl here. I have to wonder if part of the problem was when they really started focusing on local music, coupled with no one wanting to drive to Akron for a show unless it was really good. A lot of the regulars moved away too.

I also have no doubts that Musica, run by a man largely regarded as Akron’s foremost crazy person / questionable businessman, will be entirely unable to fill the void. Though, in truth live shows in all of Northeast Ohio have been floundering for a couple years, and I have no idea how the Beachland stays open.
