The grim reaper is a cat. “Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours. His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It […]

Dreamgirls

Rating: 2.5 of 5 stars

The only good thing about this movie was Jennifer Hudson. I don’t know which was worse, the screenplay or the awkwardness of the musical dialogue.

Think what you will of him, but Michael Moore always hits the nail on the head. He manages to mention Sherrod Brown too.

I thought Damien Hirst just bedazzled this thing, but apparently I am wrong. Insert starving artist / Damien Hirst is like the richest artist evar joke here.

Passive aggressive notes never get old. My favorite are the roommate notes. “I know you guys have the habit of eating my food. Please don’t be disturbed by the little white box that says ‘typhus vaccination.’ Just go ahead and do your thing.”

Cupcake Party

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Yesterday Alana and I had our very first cupcake party. We bought all kinds of lime green and white tableware for the occasion. Alana surprised me with an early birthday present, a shiny red stand mixer. I finished two batches of cupcakes and icing in an hour, including time to wash utensils / mixing bowls / measuring apparatus in between! Baking will never be the same.

Dogs abound

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

I had a dream this afternoon (yes this afternoon, I indulge in a nap every Saturday) wherein we acquired 4 more Cairn Terriers. There were dogs everywhere, it was out of control. One of the dogs was pregnant and had a puppy. I tried listing the new dogs on Craigslist, but Alana pleaded with me not to. The new dogs were better behaved than our old dogs.

Alana’s Business Cards

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

So I finished these up a few weeks ago and am pretty pleased with the results. The photo isn’t the greatest because I was using our older digital camera and the flash. Next time though I’ll definitely order the physical proof instead of getting just the digital, as there won’t be any time constraints. I didn’t notice when I opened the proofs that they cropped out my 1/8″white border on the text side of the card. I mistakenly thought Preview was zoomed in. Now the lower type comes a little closer to the bottom than I’d like. This is what happens when you don’t check your proofs carefully, so that’s my fault.

I’ve been too tired lately to post much

Friday, July 13th, 2007

We’ve been going to the dog park pretty frequently, tiring out the pups and ourselves. I sent out a double disc mix cd set to 15 people. I saw SiCKO and Ocean’s 13. Both were exactly as I expected them to be. I want to move to Europe in 10 years. I’m excited for two trips later in the year. First, the AGI UI team will be in attendance at AnEventApart Chicago. This means I get to hang out with the people I know in town and do some record shopping. Second, I’m going to see Loretta Lynn in October.

Reasons Why I Need to Move

Monday, July 9th, 2007

When I first moved into this downstairs duplex we thought it was perfect. Our upstairs neighbors were nice, the house next door to us was empty. Most of the other houses in the neighborhood were occupied by nice families and were well kept. In the past year this has all gone to hell.

I realized it was the beginning of the end when one rainy day I saw the house next door had a uhaul backed up on the lawn to the front door, mud tire tracks be damned. Dudes in wifebeaters were unloading plastic lawn furniture from the truck into the house. I’d later learn since the bank foreclosed upon the previous owners, these people were able to scoop up the property for 1/3 of the cost of the surrounding property. Unfortunately we just resigned a lease since it wasn’t at the time apparent what our future plans exactly were. Now I have all this to deal with:
