LA Ink: Episode 5
Over the last couple of episodes I’ve grown to appreciate Kim Saigh’s work more. While her style isn’t necessarily my favorite (always a matter of personal preference) she has good drawing skills, isn’t afraid to use a lot of color, and has very clean and sterile practices. She’s the only artist on any of the tattoo reality shows using the appropriate amount of barriers. Even when she set up for Steve O’s tattoo on Kat she used a barrier bag on the machine and clip cord. Good call, who knows what a guy known for injuring himself and swallowing goldfish might have rolled around in.
Corey Miller should steer clear of the color work. It ends up looking like a poorly tinted black and white photograph. He shades too dark and haphazardly dumps color over top.
I’d love to see a tattoo show that’s actual reality instead of this faux-boutique and tear jerker crap. I don’t care about some cheese-o cable country band all getting crappy tattoos to celebrate their number one (on just what chart exactly?) single. I want to see walk in customers. I want to see these artists doing the custom pieces they normally do and not these tiny little pieces accompanying the tv ready sob stories. I don’t want to see celebrities getting tattooed, because usually they make some of the worst choices regarding subject matter. Show me any of these artists tattooing in their natural environment and on their actual clientele.
