Update

I feel like I’ve updated everything I own. This weekend I upgraded to WordPress 2.3, updated Mint, several Peppers, updated the iPhone, and replaced my Adobe CS2 & Macromedia 8 Suites with CS3. Surprisingly, it went off without a hitch. If you experienced any outages on the site Saturday, it was due to the maintenance.

Bluehost has a great feature which lets you upgrade (and backup) your WordPress install with one click. They only check for stable releases though, and since 2.3 is still beta I had to do it through the WP Automatic Upgrade plugin. The plugin was great, and allowed me to create additional backups. The only problem I encountered was with a couple plugins, and (particularly Similar Posts and Google Sitemaps) manually updating them did the trick. I love that I can check for available plugin updates right from the plugin admin page.

The only other problem I encountered was with tags. I updated my theme, and still the tags weren’t displaying. I tried about a million things, and right as I was about to tear my hair out I stumbled upon a fix. Instances of wp_start must be changed to the_post. I’m using a modified loop, otherwise I don’t think wp_start would’ve even been in there to begin with. I did have some other tag weirdness though, I added the tag “tattoos” to a post, and it changed it to “Tattoos.” I’m not sure if this is because I already have a category called “Tattoos” so it pulled the capitalization from there?

Lastly it occured to me I never did away with WordPress’ default (and rude) nofollow comments. That’s gone, and I added some other plugins. One day I’ll get around to adding a full plugin list to the colophon.
