Today the US Dollar and the Canadian Dollar are worth exactly the same. Crap. I wonder if Canadians are going to be pissed that all their books still cost $10 more?

Google now has their very own in-house lobbyists. I wonder how this will affect the company’s “do no harm” ethos in the future.

LA Ink: Episode 7

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

One of my biggest problems with this show (and any tattoo reality show for that matter) is it’s attempt to pass fabrication as reality. No artist has a 5 minute turn around time for the preliminary drawing of a good portrait. The fact is since all of the tattoos on the show are prearranged the […]

Autumn Trips to the Park

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

In an effort to try and make the most of Fall, Alana and I have been taking the dogs to a lot of fun outdoor activities. Sunday we went back to Bow Wow Beach, and Monday afternoon we visited Kendall Hills in Boston Township / Peninsula. Both were a great chance to try out my […]

CNN Can’t Be Bothered With Favicons

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Instead they’re still using the WordPress favicon in their blogs area. It’s surprising for me to see such a high traffic site choose a blogging platform instead of a full featured CMS. I presume they’re using some other CMS for the rest of the site, so it’s bizarre they’d deviate for a sub-section. I guess […]

Scandal and corruption in high school football. I know sports are character building and physical education is important, and blah blah, but really I think sports and schools should be totally separate. Let cities offer intramural sports for student athletes. I went to a school where football had a bigger budget than the arts and […]

How banks rip off college students and the government, from Slate yesterday. This reaffirms my believe that student loans are a huge racket and not designed to help students, but to send them spiraling into years of debt.

CS3 and Leopard might not be compatible, or buggy at best. Great, guess I’ll be holding off on the initial release of Leopard.

I Broke Down and Bought an iPhone

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

I’m sure everyone else is as tired of hearing about these things as I am, so I’ll try to keep this post succinct. Basically my RAZR was a piece of crap and dying. The phone I had before it, a Nokia 3300 tried to pass itself off as an mp3 player and PDA, and it […]

Freakonomics on the sad state of civil employees’ pay. It’s absurd that we as a culture will pay someone a million dollars to hit a ball with a stick, but the people who keep us safe, and the people who shape our children in their formative years make so little.

My favorite article from A Brief Message so far. There’s a great quote from Henry Ford.
If I had asked my customers what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse.

Miranda July Is Not Ironic

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Lately I’ve been reading a lot about Miranda July’s work suffering the twee film backlash. I find this mostly unfair since I don’t even really consider her a filmmaker. I’ve always seen her as a performance artist, though she’s really a jack of all trades. Me and You and Everyone We Know and No One […]

Black Snake Moan

Monday, September 17th, 2007
Rating: 1 of 5 stars

This movie was a caricaturish, hipsterized vision of the South. Alana called it “if Williamsburg had a white-trash theme party.” There were approximately three minutes of film where Christina Ricci wasn’t writhing on all fours. Samuel L. Jackson isn’t much of an actor when he isn’t being type-cast as the angry swearing dude. The only […]

Need Some Site Updates

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Hopefully if I’m not still sick this weekend I plan to roll out some updates to the site, fixing some of the bugs that come with hacking up a blank WordPress theme. First off, I noticed that if you use the search in the sidebar, the results are returned- in the sidebar. Strange.

A GameStop manager in Texas only sells games to students with good grades. This is quite the contrast from our local GameStop where the kids working behind the counter swear a blue streak, and tell you the wrong release dates for games, and occasionally send you home with an empty game case.
