A Few Mostly Music Morning Links
The first time I visited Portland, I was immediately struck by how bike friendly the city was. The roads and public transit embraced cyclists rather than swerving around them, screaming obscenities like Ohio. Today the NY Times comments on Portland’s bike culture.
If you’re a fan of Lomo photography, or cool old cameras in general, these White Stripes limited edition Lomo cameras are worth checking out. They’re twice as expensive as the non-White Stripes models, but they come with plenty of accessories, such as ring flashes and filters, to make it worth your while.
Indie HQ has a great response to Wired’s article on vinyl.
I mentioned selling nearly 3,000 copies of “Planet of Ice” and you know how many were registered through Soundscan? Zero! I made the decision not to put a barcode on the record and have made no attempts to sell it to chain stores. Chain stores don’t know what to do with vinyl and I would rather indie stores make money off of my products. Nearly all of the records have been sold through the Vinyl Collective website or through mom and pop retailers, many of which don’t even report to Soundscan.
Stereogum talks about a world without Oink.
It was an excellent record of one field of human achievement and now its gone … How about the Clash’s “Vanilla Tapes” that were lost on a subway train 30 years ago? On Oink, but not in stores.
It was the digital music version of the burning of the Library at Alexandria.
They destroyed the greatest historical archive of rock so they could make a couple more bucks off Rhianna’s “Umbrella”.
Lastly, if you’re as obsessive about your music collection as I am check out these A-Z cd dividers. I wish they’d make them in LP size as well.

What’s the vegan militia?
I think you accidentally commented on the wrong post, anyhow the vegan militia stereotype is this idea that all vegetarians/vegans are militant and try to 1.) force their beliefs down everyone else’s throats, 2.) use extreme tactics in their “conversion” efforts. Basically portraying them as crazy crusading lunatics.
