December Mix: Goodbye 2008

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I’ve been slacking on mixes and never uploaded the last several months’ worth. I have a few of them lying around and at some point I’ll make them available. The tracks on this mix were all released in 2008. The theme is letting go of the old year and starting fresh in the new one. […]

Friday, September 26th, 2008

My mom died two years ago on Monday. I thought the week would be very difficult, but thinking about her has made me more happy than it has sad. I’ve undertaken the monumental task of scanning all the photos from my childhood, it will take forever, but here’s one: Losing one of your parents makes […]

Look at This Freaking Cake!

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Rachel made this for my birthday. It’s a shark attack cake, because I love shark week. Happy blood day.

Movies I Have Seen Lately

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

When I moved to Cleveland Heights I had the good fortune to move three blocks from the Cedar Lee, the local independent film theater. Monday is $5 movie night, and I’ve been trying to take advantage of it’s close proximity. Since moving I have seen: Savage Grace American Teen OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies […]

Belated July 2008 Mix

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

This mix is best served on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Rain for the first half is desirable but not essential. Also appropriate for: driving to get dinner, Friday at 7pm, a trip to the book store, walking your dogs at dusk, dawdling and napping on the couch. The Skygreen Leopards – Places West of Shawnapee […]

June 2008 Mix

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Enjoy this mix in one of the following conditions: sunny + hot + humid, rainy + hot + humid, or rainy + windy + cold. It also goes well with: long drives across town at dusk, trying to find parking in the evening, rainy Saturday afternoon naps, beers at a quiet table, the bookstore, reminiscing, […]

Hopefully My Absence is Over

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Life hasn’t afforded me the time for a blog post in a while. Here’s what’s going on: I’ve been very immersed in my new job, I am working on some awesome things I can’t talk about now because of trade secrets etc, but billing and payments in online insurance are about to get much much […]

May 2008 Mix (Belated)

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Long overdue, here is my mix for May. On June 2nd. I’m a little behind, give me a break I’m moving and completely drained. Listen to this while lying on your couch with minimal lighting. Bonus points for incense and headphones. There is also some album art. French Kicks – Abandon Annuals – Sore Ladytron […]

Tina Fey is Funnier Than Dudes

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

MSNBC recently picked Tina Fey as their funniest person. Though I would hardly call MSNBC the barometer of hilarity, it’s nice to see a woman in entertainment get respect for something other than her boobs. The best part of the article: …women (along with other women in comedy) still battle periodic declarations by male performers […]

I’m Still Alive

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

The past two weeks have been incredibly busy. In addition to assimilating to the new job, I’ve been swamped with freelance and work for my class. Alana also started a new job, at Evolved in Columbus, probably the most reputable tattoo studio in the state. We’ve had a lot of work getting everything ready for […]

The Cat’s Out of the Bag

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

Things have been kind of quiet on this blog, as the speed of my life seems to have doubled. I just came home from vacation, and will be starting a new job at Progressive Insurance. I’m sad to leave my coworkers behind; it’s not often one gets to work with such a talented and knowledgeable […]

Regrettably Back From Vacation

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

We had a really good and much needed trip, though I think next time I’d prefer to drive rather than fly. Priceline doesn’t honor your seat selections, so Alana and I were seated apart on most of our flights. Someone was nice enough to switch with us on our last flight so we could sit […]

On Vacation

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

There won’t be much posting for the next week, as I’ll be on vacation and trying to avoid the internet. There may be a few intermittent tweets. Suggestions for things to do in West Palm Beach are welcome, though I’ll mostly be lounging by the pool. Enjoy the 11 degree Ohio weather.

Slow for Holidays

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Posting will be slow until after the holidays. Christmas was good. We got a bunch of stuff to keep us busy until we go to Florida next month. I spent most of my days off shopping, wrapping and cooking. Looking forward to spending next weekend lounging about. I’m going on vacation the week of January […]

The Mystery of the Leonard Ave. Parking Ticket

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

A few weeks ago, Alana received a parking ticket on our street, for blocking someone’s driveway. There were a few unusual things about this, the first being that no driveways were blocked. The second, is that police never go down our street, let alone ticket. If they did the three junked cars from my new […]

Busy Busy Busy

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Though is was only four days, this week has been hectic. It’s rained the last four Mondays in a row, and the weather has been generally unpleasant so the dogs aren’t getting enough outdoor time. This means Harper (the devilish one on the right whose fur is all smooshed to the side of her face […]

Post Thanksgiving Madness

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

I’ve been sitting around my house in pajamas for the last 5 days letting Twitter digests accumulate. I had the grandest ambitions of writing a month’s worth of posts in my time off, but instead I tackled the behemoth of re-tagging my music collection. I’d already gone through and done this once, but poetically my […]

Site Errata

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By request, I’ve added a preview comment feature. Honestly I don’t know why I haven’t had it all along. I’ve also added a comment feed link for people who don’t want to mess around with auto discovery. Lastly, since the holidays are closer I thought I’d save my family some guess work; I’ve used Amazon’s […]

Meetings Meetings Meetings

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Posting is slow today, I’m in meetings and presentations almost the entire day. I’ll post my thought’s on last night’s LA Ink tomorrow. In the mean time, here’s some links: Neatorama profile of Lisa Meitner, mother of the Atom Bomb. Student loan racketeering. Profile of Sharon Jones in the wake of Amy Winehouse’s success with […]

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

I feel like I’ve updated everything I own. Today I upgraded to WordPress 2.3, updated Mint, several Peppers, updated the iPhone, and replaced my Adobe CS2 & Macromedia 8 Suites with CS3. Surprisingly, it went off without a hitch. If you experienced any outages on the site Saturday, it was due to the maintenance.

Site Housekeeping

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

As per the advice of my buddy, who runs – I did some light cleaning this evening and installed the Optimal Title plugin, the Google Sitemaps plugin, and cleaned up my archives and category pages. I still have a few kinks to iron out in categories (losing the date on remaindered links), and while […]

It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day

Need Some Site Updates

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Hopefully if I’m not still sick this weekend I plan to roll out some updates to the site, fixing some of the bugs that come with hacking up a blank WordPress theme. First off, I noticed that if you use the search in the sidebar, the results are returned- in the sidebar. Strange.

On Dog Breeding and Ethics

Monday, September 10th, 2007

There’s been a lot of talk lately about feminist blogger Jessica Valenti, and her decision to purchase a puppy from a breeder. It strikes me as curious, that because she’s a feminist she must also innately support an entire cadre of views associated with your “typical lefty.” I don’t really have a comment on Jessica’s […]

Advertisers: The Queer Community Is Paying Attention

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Marketers now have statistical data to prove what I could’ve told you all along. Some 88% of gay men and 91% of lesbians claim that a brand’s sponsorship or support of LGBT events favorably influences their buying decisions, according to a study released today from Community Marketing, Inc., San Francisco. The study also found that […]

Why I Don’t Do Much to Prevent Comment Spam

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Spam is a big problem these days, it’s gone from my inbox to my blog, to my MySpace, to my Twitter, my stats, and now even my Mint stats. Luckily, we’ve been given a lot of options for combating it, albeit with caveats.

Actually getting some work done on the site

Friday, July 27th, 2007

There’s been a little extra dirt the past few days because I’ve been doing some major revamping of both the Wordpress back end of my site, and the visual layout of different categories of posts. You may have even seen the site down a few times, thanks to my mad PHP skills. I hope my sarcasm isn’t lost over the internet. I’ve introduced a friendly way of displaying reviews, tweets, and remaindered links.

Cannot believe how bad Dreamgirls was. There is now a shiny red stand mixer perched on my kitchen counter. Cupcakes away! # Having a good laugh at all the people who waited in line at midnight for Harry Potter. Target had 3 end caps full of the book yesterday. # Hoping to take a half […]
