If you owe someone a beer or use Twitter, check out Foamee, a new project from Simple Bits. More importantly, when can we expect to see a version of Cork’d for single malts or beer?

If you love Sleater-Kinney or snarky writing, check out Monitor Mix, Carrie Brownstein’s new NPR music blog.
But what kind of music does a young man who is a human scratching post listen to? I might guess Peter Murphy or Tool or My Chemical Romance, but I have no idea. These are some of the […]
I suddenly don’t feel so bad about putting my dog in a glow in the dark skeleton t-shirt for Halloween, this is far worse.
From Wired yesterday: Vinyl May Be Final Nail in CD’s Coffin. Finally record labels and the media are starting to comprehend what music enthusiasts have known all along.
Matador and other labels include coupons in record packaging that can be used to download MP3 versions of the songs. Amory called the coupon program “hugely popular.”
This […]
These architect Christmas Cards would be great to send Alana’s dad. I hope they reprint them. (via)
From Digg, the World’s Most Expensive Scotches. Some of these look amazing. So far the most expensive single malt I’ve had is a Macallan 18 ringing in at $150+ a bottle. It was delicious- I’m partial to highlands, but certainly not the best I’ve had.
I came across The Superest today, a venture from Kevin Cornell and Matthew Sutter. The premise is someone draws a cartoon with a special power. The next cartoon’s power cancels out the previous cartoon’s power. The illustration quality is superb, and I love the hand drawn type. (via)
Garrett Dimon has a great article today called Creating a Visual Language. As his example he highlights Amazon’s great use of color and iconography. It’s so important to have this thoroughly planned from the get go, especially in large scale enterprise sites
D. Keith Robinson does what I am far too lazy to do, and posts an awesome mix. Check it out, he’s had the fabulous taste to include the Gossip.
Automattic has acquired Gravatar. I think only good things are going to come of this, and hopefully we’ll see a more widespread adoption of Gravatar. Avatars are already loading three times faster, and the premium service features are now free.
214 years ago yesterday, Marie Antoinette was beheaded. Mental Floss has a great article about her and her official portrait painter, also regarded as the most famous woman painter of the 18th century.
Ever take a rental car to the gas station, only to realize you have no idea which side the tank is on? Well, no more! Apparently the gas light icon indicates this by placement of the hose. Who knew?
Results from A List Apart’s Web Design Survey 2007 have been published. While I applaud their efforts to gain some understanding of the industry, I have to believe the results are a little skewed. Think about what kinds of web professionals are more likely to be familiar with the A List Apart folks. Then think […]
I’ve always bought shoes from Zappos because of their speedy, reliable service. The last time I ordered was a Sunday and they sent me an email the same day to tell me my shoes had gone out. Sure enough, they arrived the next day. But the reason I will never buy shoes online from anyplace […]
Cracked’s 10 Most Asinine Movie Twist Endings.
High Tension was on track to become one of the great horror films of our time. That is, until its final 10 minutes, where the filmmakers raised their middle fingers to the audience and said, “Hey, you know that awesome movie you were just watching? … Yeah, well, […]
If you haven’t been watching AMC’s Mad Men, here’s a great Salon piece on what you’re missing.
Fisherman catching fierce looking sharks in just a kayak. A freaking kayak!
None of us knew what to expect since this was the first time we had fished together as a group as well as the first time a kayaker had fished for Salmon Sharks.
The Top 10 Creepiest Food Mascots.
Dear McDonalds, what exactly is this Grimace creature you have spawned? Is he a mutated prune? A malformed mushroom? Is he an obese American fast food consumer whose skin took on an unearthly hue after consuming one too many Happy Meals?
I’m pretty sure his name is from the face […]
Salon’s hilarious review of the decidedly unhilarious The Heartbreak Kid.
“The Heartbreak Kid” marks the first time in my life I haven’t laughed at Jerry Stiller. And around the 100th time I haven’t laughed at his son, Ben…it seems to take him a great deal of effort to stretch his lips into a smile, and […]
Miranda July’s Learning to Love You More is now a book.
learningtoloveyoumore.com was Miranda July’s (and Harrell Fletcher’s) first groundbreaking site, coupling the wide reach of the internet with participatory art projects. From the website:
Participants accept an assignment, complete it by following the simple but specific instructions, send in the required report (photograph, text, […]
A great post from Advergirl on how her job isn’t really all that different from the retail and service jobs we left behind. She’s from Ohio too, by the way.
I smell a little less like French fries when I get home, but I’m still smiling when I don’t mean it, slinging coffee and supporting […]
In some web related news, WebKit is now supporting @font-face rules, and a judge has allowed the class action suit against Target, over accessibility issues, to go forward. It’s sad to me that online retailers still don’t understand the advantage for the blind in shopping online.
Website of Laura Keeble, artist behind the Damien Hirst skull prank, and now a graveyard installation. You can read more about the installation on the Wooster Collective website.
I came across a review of The Game Plan in Seattle’s The Stranger (perhaps the best free paper I’ve ever read by the way) by Lindy West.
“Sorry, annoying child,” he tells her, “I cannot care for you. You see, I am a man, and my apartment is full to capacity with trophies, catchphrases, megabucks, […]
Slate article on Wes Anderson and racism, summing up everything I’ve ever thought about him, only far more eloquently and precisely than I ever could.
In every film he’s made, even the best ones, there’s been something kind of obnoxious about Wes Anderson…there’s the way he frequently couples songs—particularly rock songs recorded by shaggy Europeans […]
